On Christmas Day 1968, the three astronauts of Apollo 8 circled the dark side of the moon and headed for home. Suddenly, over the horizon of the moon rose the blue and white Earth garlanded by the glistening light of the sun against the black void of space. Those sophisticated men, trained in science and technology, did not utter Einstein's name. They did not even go to the poets, the lyricists, or the dramatists. Only one thing could capture the awe-inspiring thrill of this magnificent observation. Billions heard the voice from outer space as the astronaut read it: "In the beginning God..." - the only concept worthy enough to describe that unspeakable awe, unutterable in any other way. "In the beginning God created..." - the invasive, the inescapable sense of the infinite and the eternal.
Don’t you agree that it takes all time and eternity to know God. Christianity is not about dos and don’ts. Strictly speaking, it is not even a religion. It is about a relationship with God. It is about a God who will not let me go because of His infinite love for me. I can run and I can hide but I cannot deny the fact that God cares for me and He exists, irregardless. You can choose to deny his existence but I can choose to experience His saving grace. I cannot prove to you that God exists in a laboratory experiment. Neither can you prove to me that God does not exist. But nobody can deny my personal experience and relationship with God.
Every human being is made with a vacuum in His life to experience something that is supernatural (God) that no material possessions can satisfy. Only God can satisfy your thirsting soul. You can believe that the universe resulted from a BIG BANG and I believe it is created intelligently by a creator (God). Both require faith. But faith in Christianity is not based on a philosophy or a theory but a person - Jesus Christ.
I Choose to Trust Him
Many non-Christians think that Christianity is a blind faith. Well, it is not. The central issue about Christianity is Jesus Christ. It is not about following a book or some rituals. It is about knowing and trusting Jesus.
Human reasoning and understanding and logic can only go so far, and then we must step out into that which cannot be proved except by experience. Theologians have sometimes referred to this truth as the "leap of faith." But trust in God is not a leap in the dark. He has given us enough evidence on which to base our trust in Him. Knowing God results in trusting God. If you don't know Him, you won't trust Him. If you don't trust Him, you don't know Him.
Another word for faith (commonly expressed in Christian circles) is trust. Genuine faith, or trust.
How to trust God?
How can I trust God? Well, only two things are necessary in order to trust someone. First, you must find someone who is trustworthy. Second, you must get to know him. The reverse is also true. In order to distrust someone, all you need is to find someone who is not trustworthy-and then get to know him.
How do we get to know God? The same way we get to know anybody else. In order to get acquainted with anyone, three things are necessary. First, talk to them. Second, listen to them talk to you. And third, go places and do things together. Those are the ingredients of communication.
We talk to God through prayer. We listen to Him speak to us through His Word. And we go places (church worship, Sabbath school, small group meeting, youth fellowship, social gatherings, etc) and do things with Him by becoming involved in Christian service, witness, and outreach.
